How to Take a Screenshot on Toshiba Laptops in Windows

Toshiba Satellite Pro S850-X0430 Laptop.

Toshiba might not be making new laptops for the market outside of Japan. However, a lot of Toshiba laptops are already being used by consumers all over the world. Moreover, used and renewed laptops are also being shipped from Japan to other countries.

If you have been using a Toshiba laptop for a long time or have recently bought a renewed model but don’t know all the possible ways to take a screenshot on it, keep on reading this post. We will discuss how you can take screenshots, whether you are using Toshiba Tecra or Toshiba Satellite laptops.

We are going to break down this guide into three main sections.

1. Taking Screenshot on Toshiba Laptop Using Keypad

You may already know how to take a full-screen screenshot in Windows using keys, i.e., press the Print Screen key in the top-right side of the keypad and paste it where you want it (MS Paint, Office, PowerPoint, etc.). But do you know that you are not bound to capture only a full screenshot with the keypad? You can also use keypad shortcuts for capturing the active window on your Toshiba laptops or have the captured screenshots saved as standalone image files.

You can also use the Print Screen key to take the screenshot of the active window. If your Toshiba laptop has multiple windows open, you can take the screenshot of the window you are using a hotkey combination of Alt and Print Screen keys.

Using Print Screen Key to Take and Save a Screenshot

You can also use the Print Screen key in a hotkey combination to take a screenshot and save it as an image file on the device. Press the Windows key and Print Screen key simultaneously to capture and save the screenshot as a separate image file.

2. Taking Screenshot Using Windows Built-in Programs

If your Toshiba laptop has recent Windows versions (from Windows 7 onwards), you can also use the Microsoft’s built-in programs to take screenshots. There are two Windows built-in programs for this purpose.

  • Snipping Tool
  • Snip & Sketch Tool (only available in Windows 10)

Using the Snipping Tool in Windows 7 and 8

Snipping Tool in Windows 7 and 8

For all Toshiba laptops with Windows 7 and 8, Snipping Tool is a better alternative for taking screenshot because:

  • It lets you manually capture the part of the screen through a rectangular-selecting cursor.
  • It lets you highlight, underline, and label the content on the taken screenshot.
  • You can send the taken screenshot directly to your Outlook account as an email attachment.

Using the Snipping Tool in Windows 10

If your Toshiba laptop has Windows 10 installed, you will find two additional features in its Snipping Tool.

  • You get to choose among four capturing modes: rectangular, free-form, windows and full-screen.
  • You can put a capturing delay of up to five seconds.

Using Snip & Sketch

Snip & Sketch is a successor to the Snipping Tool. Microsoft is considering it making a default screen-capturing program in all the upcoming Windows versions. Snip & Sketch has more or less the same features as the Snipping Tool. However, the following are some additional features that you will only find in Snip & Sketch.

  • Besides highlighter and pen, it also offers a pencil tool for the screenshot annotation.
  • It provides a capturing delay of up to 10 seconds.
  • It features a protractor and ruler to draw circles and lines with precision.

3. Taking Screenshots Using External Screen-Capturing Tools

There is a range of paid and free third-party screen-capturing tools available on the web. If you want to take more advanced screenshots on your Toshiba laptop, consider installing any of them. Here, we are going to discuss two such programs that will be suitable for Toshiba machines.

LightShot

LightShot is a free-to-use third-party screen-capturing tool. You can use it on your Toshiba laptop as a standalone application. You can also use it as a browser extension with Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. It is a lightweight application that doesn’t take too much disk and computing space on your laptop but offers more features than the Snipping Tool and Snip & Sketch.

For instance, it has more annotation features. You can draw shapes and arrows on the taken screenshot. It also offers more sharing options than what you get with Windows’ built-in programs.

Taskbars of LightShot

You can use LightShot on your Toshiba Laptop for:

  • Labeling and annotating the captured screenshots for elaborating them further
  • Sharing the captured screenshots directly across various social media platforms
  • Searching the similar images and screenshots on Google

ShareX

ShareX is another free third-party screen-capturing tool for Windows. It will be a perfect option for your Toshiba laptop if you have to use it for the extensive editing of the taken screenshots. It offers a range of capturing modes along with screen recording. You can also create GIF files of the captured footage then and there.

ShareX main window with the “Master Sidebar”

ShareX also offers a range of editing and effect features. You can also use it to recognize and extract the text present on the captured screenshot in an editable form. ShareX, however, is not available in an installable program version. You can only use it as a portable application. Also, it doesn’t come in a browser extension format like LightShot.

To find out how to install and use it for all its features and how it fares as compared to another free third-party screen-capturing program, refer to our ShareX review.
